I started practicing yoga after retiring from my long career with the Illinois Department of Employment Security. A few years prior to retirement, I’d started experiencing back spasms. A doctor suggested surgery, but my inner spirit was not in agreement. A friend suggested yoga. After I retired, I found a local yoga studio and started practicing yoga a couple days a week. After a few months of consistent practice, the back spasms stopped and have not returned. It’s been more than 15 years now since I started my yoga practice. In 2016, I was inspired to complete the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. In 2022, at the age of 72, I was inspired to complete the Advanced 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training. I’ve been blessed to have been able to consistently teach yoga and/or speak about the benefits of a consistent yoga practice to many people over the years. Much thanks to my sister friend, Dagne Barton, who helped me get started teaching yoga classes on Zoom during the pandemic. My in person classes (on the mat & chair) are Tuesdays & Thursday at my home studio. My teaching style is Hatha which is suitable for beginners and those folk who enjoy a slower meditative practice of moving with the rhythm of their breath. I’ve found my passion in my purpose for this season of my life as I continue to share my knowledge of the practice of yoga with those who are seeking tools to enhance their quality of life.
